EVALUATIVE STATEMENT
In the narrative and sequence module I have created three unconventionally shaped wordless artists books. Inspired by Victorian secret languages and etiquette, I have made three dance card fans containing images that tell an emotive and romantic narrative with the use of symbols and patterns. Originally I was going to make a different type of fan that had a lot more vignettes that told the story, but in this project I have learned to not be too logical with the storytelling and allow it to become more abstract so the reader can decide for themselves what they're seeing. I have been introduced to new methods of working for this project, such as sourcing wood and using the laser cutting machines in the fabrication department, I have gone back to digital art again for this module, but I can definitely see an improvement of my skills when comparing to my final piece from the Introduction To Illustration module. I managed to go to galleries as well to further my research. I had this idea from very early on in the module, which has been useful as it's given me more time to experiment and refine. Something I should keep in mind to improve is to make sure to avoid using pure black in my drawings to make sure the focus is on the right part of the piece, try and make sure everything is absolutely perfect before printing to avoid having to do it again, and that a narrative doesn't have to be so logical all the time, there are many other ways to convey it. Overall, I think that this was a successful module outcome which I enjoyed bringing to life.
